Carla's New Adventure!
Hello flower-loving friend!
Welcome to our new website! And if you're reading this blog post, welcome to our new adventure! I am not going to lie, when I first started considering the idea of writing weekly blog posts I asked myself a thousand times "what am I even going to write about?, I'm not that interesting!"
Then it hit me, "I" am not that interesting but my work is! and I if you follow me on Instagram you have probably seen a photo or two from some my weddings, but there is so much more to those weddings, and there have been so many more weddings than what I have shared on social media, that it is a shame for me not to share it with you. So I hope you stick around to see more than just the bridal bouquet!
But before we get started on sharing those beautiful weddings galleries and stories, here's a short intro of me and how I took Capital Florist to the next level!
My name is Carla and I am 26 years old and I love cake probably a little more than I love flowers! So much so that for my 26th birthday I ordered this... 3-tier (wedding) cake.... that could have fed up to 100 guest! Needless to say, we spent the next 10 days eating cake for breakfast, but I wouldn't have it any other way! Oh and yes, I had sign hand lettered that reads "I only came for the cake"!! I totally overuse the exclamation point but it is the only way to show people how excited I am that we are even having a conversation! And lastly, I love playing with flowers and I've been playing with them for 10 years!!!

I am a lover of simple things, I don't ask for much and I have always been very happy with how my life turned out. I am a Carleton Alumni with a degree in Political Science and until about 6 weeks ago I was working long hours as part of the store management team for a large multinational corporation. When I landed that job back in the Spring of 2016 I thought "this is it!" At 24 I was making more money than I could count but most importantly I thought that I had finally found a company in which I could have a life-long career.
For a very long time I thought I could have a career and continue doing people's wedding florals as a hobby on the side and every time someone asked about the future of my floral business I would say "I just do it for fun, I'm never quitting my job, I love my job!" But after a fully booked wedding season (2017) I realized that I loved my job but my true passion lies in growing my business and being able to bring my clients' wedding dreams to life, so I decided to jump in with two feet and hope for the best!
Over the last 6 weeks I have poured a lot of time, money, sweat and tears into this brainchild of mine to give Capital Florist a face-lift and with the help of an extremely talented website designer & Photographer I've been able to do just that! After celebrating ONE WHOLE year of successful business with Capital Florist I cannot wait to share with you what our second (with very limited dates available!) wedding season has in store for all of our couples!

If you'd like to stay in the loop of what we are up to, I encourage you to sign up for our newsletter, I promise you'll only hear from me whenever something extremely cool happens (like getting nominated for the FACES Awards (voting ends Jan 24!) or when I make something pretty!
I also love to meet new people in person, potential clients or not, message me directly (did I mention I love coffee?) to set up a coffee date! But if you are a bride-to-be and would like to have a quick chat with me about your wedding floral and what we can do for you please drop by my booth at the Wedding Palace Bridal Show this January 13th & 14th at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa. And because I would really, really love to meet you and your entourage I am giving away 5 pairs of tickets (2 tickets) to the Wedding Palace Bridal Show and all you have to do is (if you're not already) follow me on Instagram and send me a Direct Message (DM) with your wedding date and venue or like our page on Facebook and send me a Message with wedding your date and venue to claim your complimentary pair!
I look forward to hearing from you,
Love,
Carla
